Micky Dolenz wrote "Randy Scouse Git" by himself in 1967, the first song of his that anyone could buy, and he lifted the title from a phrase he heard on the British TV series Till Death Us Do Part while he was in England. It turned up on Headquarters and on the Monkees' TV show, with Dolenz singing lead and playing drums, timpani and wood block, Michael Nesmith on electric guitar, Peter Tork on organ and piano, Davy Jones on vocals and producer Chip Douglas on bass.
In Britain, RCA decided the title was a bit rude for local ears and asked for something else, so it went out there as "Alternate Title" and became a number 2 hit. Tork said it was one of his favorite Monkees tracks.
