“I Know The End” by Phoebe Bridgers

"I Know the End" became the fourth single from Punisher, Phoebe Bridgers' second album, in July 2020, and it's built as a three-part suite that moves through depression and euphoria to the apocalypse before it all breaks open in a cathartic scream. It gets called chamber pop; Bridgers preferred to call it a big metal song.

She brought a crowd. Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska co-produced with her, Rob Moose plays strings, Nate Walcott the horn, Gruska adds flute, synthesizer and mellotron, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner takes the lead guitar at the finish. Her boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker and her Better Oblivion Community Center partner Conor Oberst are among the backing singers, and Oberst, Christian Lee Hutson and Marshall Vore share the writing credit with her. Mike Mogis mixed it.
