“Love Illumination” by Franz Ferdinand

"Love Illumination" was the second single from Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, Franz Ferdinand's fourth album, arriving in 2013 between "Right Action" and "Evil Eye". Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy wrote it over a weekend at McCarthy's Sausage Studio, where Mark Ralph recorded it, and it crams indie rock, dance-rock, new wave, glam and funk into one strut, with Gus Asphalt on sax and Daftdog on brass. The producer is credited as Prince House Rabbit.

McCarthy first thought Kapranos's guitar riff was too rocky, then came around to enjoying it. Kapranos framed the song as a hunt for satisfaction in a world of destruction, greed and boredom: some people go looking for love in Hollywood, he said, others under the bright lights of Blackpool, which is where he'd try.
