Drake dropped "God's Plan" on January 19, 2018, through Young Money and Cash Money, and it pulled double duty: the lone single from his Scary Hours EP and the opening salvo for his fifth studio album, Scorpion. He wrote it with Brock Korsan and producers Boi-1da, Cardo, Yung Exclusive and Noah "40" Shebib, and the result is pop-rap with a trap undertow, Drake turning over fame and fate.
Critics liked how catchy it was and admired the production, even as they filed it as typical Drake. Listeners didn't care: it entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number one, broke first-day streaming records on Spotify and Apple Music, and ended 2018 as the most-streamed song on both. In Karena Evans' video he hands out nearly one million dollars across Florida, and the song won Best Rap Song at the 61st Grammy Awards.
