Doves put "One of These Days" on Some Cities, their third album, which Heavenly Recordings released in February 2005. The words and music are credited jointly to Jimi Goodwin, Andy Williams and Jez Williams.
Some Cities was meant as a rawer, more stripped-back record, and it keeps circling the band's hometown of Manchester: the way the city itself was physically changing, and changes of a more personal, emotional kind alongside. It became their second straight album to top the UK chart, with "Black and White Town", "Snowden" and "Sky Starts Falling" pulled off it as singles.
