“Six Days On The Road” by Dave Dudley

"Six Days on the Road" belongs to Dave Dudley the way the highway belongs to the big rigs. Earl Green and Carl Montgomery, a songwriter out of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, wrote it, but it was Dudley's recording, produced by Shelby Singleton, that turned it into a major hit in 1963 and later gave its name to his album Six Days on the Road.

It's a truck-driving country song through and through, and Dudley's version climbed to No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart while crossing far enough over to crack the top 40 of the Hot 100 at No. 32. It came to be regarded as the ultimate hymn to the American trucker.
