"Omaha" comes from August and Everything After, the debut Counting Crows album DGC released on September 14, 1993, and it's the record at its most rootsy and rambling. Adam Duritz wrote it on his own and does more than sing: he's on piano and harmonica too. Charlie Gillingham fills the room with accordion, Hammond organ, chamberlin and piano, David Bryson and Matt Malley play guitar, Malley holds down the bass and Steve Bowman drums, with all four of them adding vocals.

T Bone Burnett produced and added guitar, and the extra hands pile on the trimmings: David Immerglück on pedal steel, mandolin and mandocello, Bill Dillon on guitar and guitorgan. Gary Louris, Mark Olson and Maria McKee lend backing voices, and Scott Litt mixed it with Pat McCarthy, who also recorded it.
