"Euphoria" is the moment Angels & Airwaves put the boot in. The 2021 single throws over most of the band's past habits for aggressive, post-hardcore-minded instrumentals, and Tom DeLonge was plain about why: he felt modern music had run short of guitars, angst and emotional authenticity, and he wanted something that sounded like the records of his youth.
It also made a new lineup official. Former Taking Back Sunday bassist Matt Rubano had taken over from Matt Wachter, who left without a word, on the band's 2019 tour, its first since 2012, and DeLonge soon started posting videos and photos of him writing and recording with the group. This is the first release with Rubano as a full member, and he shares the songwriting with DeLonge, Ilan Rubin and Aaron Rubin.
