Amen & Goodbye by Yeasayer

Amen & Goodbye, Yeasayer's fourth album, came out on Mute on April 1, 2016, and it took the Brooklyn experimental rockers longer to make than anything before it: four years. For the first time they set up and recorded live outdoors, in the wilds of upstate New York, and a rainstorm that damaged their tapes only dragged things out further. Chris Keating and Anand Wilder, the band's two singers and main songwriters, still share the mic, with Ira Wolf Tuton completing the core trio.

You can hear the open air and the patchwork in it: a kaleidoscopic swirl of psych-pop, where "I Am Chemistry" and "Silly Me" sit comfortably next to stranger detours. The sleeve is just as busy, a sculpture by David Altmejd that the band pitched as Sgt. Pepper crossed with Hieronymus Bosch, Salvador Dalí and Pee-wee's Playhouse. It followed Fragrant World.
