Newcastle punks Trophy Eyes went all the way to Thailand for The American Dream, their third album, cutting it with producer Shane Edwards at Karma Sound Studios and putting it out through Hopeless Records on 3 August 2018. It marks a lineup turn, too: Blake Caruso's first record behind the kit, and the last with rhythm guitarist Kevin Cross.
The band rolled it out a single at a time, starting with "You Can Count on Me" and a video at the end of May, then "More Like You" and "Friday Forever", with a clip for "Lavender Bay" trailing along in November. John Floreani's voice carries the whole thing, a punk singer whose heart keeps spilling over into big, open-armed choruses. In October they hauled it through every major city on the East Coast on their biggest national tour yet, with Dear Seattle, Maddy Jane and Stumps opening.
