Treehouse by The Grapes of Wrath

Treehouse, the second album from the Grapes of Wrath, came out in 1987, and it finds the Kelowna, British Columbia band polishing its sound to a shine. Tom Cochrane produced, and the harmonies of singers Kevin Kane and Tom Hooper ring out like they were made for long drives across the Prairies.

It's all chiming guitars and wistful melodies, folk-rock softness over a pop spine. "Peace of Mind" gave them their first single on Canada's RPM chart, reaching 56, and "Backward Town" and "O Lucky Man" followed it out; the album itself peaked at 42 on the RPM Albums chart. It came after September Bowl of Green, and the band's most successful stretch, running into the early 1990s, was just ahead.
