Walkabout by The Fixx
Walkabout is an album by The Fixx, released in 1986. 2 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 7 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Secret Separation”, on 6 lists with a best position of #48.
Walkabout, the Fixx's fourth studio album, came out on MCA in May 1986 in America, with Britain made to wait until September. The London band, together since 1979, had Rupert Hine producing, and the sound is new wave at its most sleek and wary: guitar lines that chime and glint, keyboards spread like frost on a window, and a singer who always seems on the verge of confessing something he'd rather keep to himself.
"Secret Separation" went out first and spent two weeks on top of Billboard's Album Rock Tracks chart that July, only the second time the band had got there. It is the record's best argument, taut and nervy and built for the car radio. Walkabout sits between Phantoms and React in the catalog, the moment the Fixx polished their unease to a high gloss.
