As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again, the Decemberists' ninth album, arrived on June 14, 2024, on YABB Records, a sprawling double album made with longtime collaborator Tucker Martine producing alongside the band. Colin Meloy and company have always loved history, folklore and grand storytelling, and here they give themselves all the room they could want to indulge it.
"Burial Ground" is the breezy, jangling earworm that grabbed countdowns, and "Oh No!" is a bouncy little romp that followed it there. Two discs is a lot of Decemberists, but that has always been the appeal: a band that would rather overreach than play it small.
