Ironiclast, the debut from hard rock supergroup The Damned Things, arrived in December 2010 on Mercury, and on paper it's a strange mix: Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax, and Every Time I Die's Keith Buckley on vocals. Even the band's name comes from a line in Ram Jam's 1977 take on "Black Betty". Josh Newton of Every Time I Die toured with them but played no part in the record.
Caggiano and Trohman produced it themselves, and it's a blast of beefy, swaggering riff rock, the pop-punk kids and the thrash veterans meeting on the common ground of big, old-school hard rock, with Buckley howling over the top. "We've Got a Situation Here" gets right to the point.
