Psychedelic Jungle by The Cramps
Psychedelic Jungle is an album by The Cramps, released in 1981. 3 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 9 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Goo Goo Muck”, on 7 lists with a best position of #95.
Psychedelic Jungle, the Cramps' second album, crawled out on I.R.S. on March 27, 1981, cut that January at A&M Studios with the band producing themselves and Paul McKenna engineering. Lux Interior and Poison Ivy Rorschach are joined by drummer Nick Knox and new recruit Kid Congo Powers, and Anton Corbijn shot the photo on the back cover.
Only half of the 14 tracks are their own; the rest are dug out of the vaults of '50s and '60s rock and roll, rockabilly and garage, from Ronnie Cook and the Gaylads' "Goo Goo Muck" and the Novas' "The Crusher" to "Green Door" and Ronnie Dawson's "Rockin' Bones". The Cramps drag every one of them into the swamp: reverb-soaked, twangy, leering and gleefully trashy, like a midnight creature feature with a jukebox. It's the psychobilly blueprint they're credited with drawing up, and it still sounds deliciously wrong.
