Manic Pop Thrill, That Petrol Emotion's 1986 debut, came out on Demon with Hugh Jones producing, and the title is fair warning. This is Irish indie rock with the throttle open: guitars that scrape and clang, a rhythm section that won't sit still, and pop hooks buried just deep enough in the racket that you have to dig for them. "It's a Good Thing" and "Natural Kind of Joy" went out as singles. The album crept to No. 84 on the UK Albums Chart, hardly a smash, but AllMusic, looking back, called it an inspired debut. Babble came next.
