The Family That Plays Together by Spirit
The Family That Plays Together is an album by Spirit, released in 1968. 1 song from it has charted on rock radio countdowns, with 9 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “I Got A Line On You”, on 9 lists with a best position of #111.
The Family That Plays Together, Spirit's second album, came out on Ode Records in December 1968 with Lou Adler producing, and it's the sound of a Los Angeles band that could head anywhere, from tough rock to jazzy drift, and usually did. It holds "I Got a Line on You", the band's most successful American single, a strutting rocker that sounds like it came from a group twice as loud.
The cover was shot at the Sunset Highland Motel on Sunset Boulevard, right across the street from Hollywood High School, and the record has kept its place in the lists of the good ones: Colin Larkin put it at number 575 in the 2000 edition of his All Time Top 1000 Albums.
