Trail of Flowers, Sierra Ferrell's fourth album, came out on Rounder Records on March 22, 2024, and it's the record where the West Virginia singer-songwriter's magpie instincts pay off in full. Ferrell has always pulled from folk, bluegrass and gypsy jazz, with detours into tango and calypso, and here she spins through all of it in a voice that sounds like it was pressed onto shellac yet still feels right now.
Critics loved how freely it roams across genres and eras, starting from Americana's bluegrass roots and wandering out along the branches. "American Dreaming" was the song that found its way onto the countdowns. It followed Long Time Coming, her first record for Rounder in 2021, and it paid off in the biggest way: Trail of Flowers won her four Grammy Awards.
