Hormonally Yours, Shakespear's Sister's second studio album, arrived on London Records on 17 February 1992, and it's a gloriously odd pop record: glammy, gothic and knowingly theatrical, with Alan Moulder producing. The duo was Siobhan Fahey, the Irish singer who had left Bananarama behind, and American musician Marcella Detroit, and their two voices make a strange, compelling couple.
"Stay" is the showpiece, all swooning drama, and it sat at number one in Britain for eight straight weeks and reached number four in America. It was one of five singles, and the album climbed to number 3 in the UK, went double platinum and spent 55 weeks on the chart, the pair's best seller. It also marked the end of the partnership's first run: Detroit was out of the lineup in 1993.
