Animal Magnetism by Scorpions
Animal Magnetism is an album by Scorpions, released in 1980. 4 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 33 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “The Zoo”, on 25 lists with a best position of #8.
Animal Magnetism, the Scorpions' seventh studio album, landed on Harvest in 1980 with Dieter Dierks producing, and it finds the Hanover band settling into the leaner, more melodic hard rock they'd started chasing on Lovedrive. This is the classic lineup locked in: Klaus Meine singing, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs on guitars, Francis Buchholz on bass and Herman Rarebell on drums.
"The Zoo" is the one that sticks, a slow, heavy strut with menace in every step, while "Lady Starlight" was, as of 2018, the only Scorpions song ever arranged for strings and orchestral winds. The title track and "Falling in Love" round out the ones the countdowns picked up. It opened a decade of big sales for the band, going gold in America in 1984 and platinum in 1991.
