Internal, the debut album from Australian electronic pop trio SAFIA, arrived on 9 September 2016, and the band made it themselves: they produced it in-house and handed the mixing to Eric J Dubowsky. Ben Woolner-Kirkham sings, Harry Sayers works the synths and guitar, and Michael Bell drums, and the record plays like a scrapbook of everything they'd tried across their earlier singles, pulled together so there'd be something for every kind of listener, as Woolner explained when it was announced alongside a national tour.
It's glossy, after-dark stuff, all pulsing synths and big, soaring vocals, with "My Love Is Gone" and "Over You" leading the way. Listeners at home took to it fast: it opened at number 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and the J Awards shortlisted it for Australian Album of the Year.
