A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead
A Moon Shaped Pool is an album by Radiohead, released in 2016. 3 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 22 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Burn The Witch”, on 18 lists with a best position of #5.
A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead's ninth studio album, slipped out digitally on 8 May 2016, with the physical release following on 17 June through XL. Nigel Godrich, their longtime producer, was back at the desk, and the band recorded at RAK Studios in London, their own studio in Oxford and La Fabrique in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
This is Radiohead at their most hushed and haunted, with Jonny Greenwood's arrangements for the London Contemporary Orchestra, strings and choir alike, swirling around Thom Yorke's fragile voice. Some of these songs had been kicking around for years, "True Love Waits" and the jittery, sawing "Burn the Witch" among them. The lyrics take on climate change, groupthink and heartbreak, and many critics heard in them Yorke's split from his wife, Rachel Owen. Stanley Donwood made the abstract cover by leaving his paintings out in the weather. It became the band's sixth UK number one.
