Woodstock by Portugal. The Man

Woodstock, Portugal. The Man's eighth studio album, came out on Atlantic on June 16, 2017, and it nearly didn't exist in this shape. After Evil Friends the band from Wasilla, Alaska, had sunk time into a project called Gloomin + Doomin, then shelved it, partly after John Gourley had a talk with his father and turned up a lost ticket stub from the Woodstock festival. They started over, mixing new songs with material salvaged from the old sessions, with Danger Mouse producing.

Gourley and bassist Zach Carothers, friends since their Wasilla High School days, steer the whole thing hard toward pop. "Noise Pollution" arrived first, in December 2016, with a video shot in Alaska, though the label never pushed it to radio. Then came "Feel It Still", a sly, strutting slice of retro soul-pop that became the band's first Billboard Hot 100 entry at number four, topped the Adult Alternative Songs chart and won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
