No Jacket Required, Phil Collins' third solo album, arrived in 1985 on Virgin in Britain and Atlantic abroad, and this time the Genesis drummer wanted you on your feet. With his Genesis touring done and a stint working with Eric Clapton behind him in 1984, he set out to write brighter, dance-minded songs, turning away from the divorce that had shadowed so much of his earlier material. "Sussudio" and "Don't Lose My Number" grew out of improvising, "Long Long Way to Go" carries a political message, and Sting, Peter Gabriel and Helen Terry pitch in on backing vocals.

It was a monster. "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Don't Lose My Number" and "Take Me Home" all made the Top 10 of the Hot 100, the first two going to number one; the album topped the charts in both the UK and the US, sold 12 million copies in America alone, and won three Grammys, Album of the Year among them.
