Blizzard of Ozz, released in 1980, was Ozzy Osbourne's first record after Black Sabbath fired him in 1979, and it's the sound of a man everyone had counted out coming back swinging. His secret weapon was guitarist Randy Rhoads, and his playing is all over it: razor riffs, flashing runs and solos that sing. It was the first of only two studio albums Rhoads made with Ozzy before his death in 1982, and Bob Daisley was also part of the band that made it.

"Crazy Train" is the one everybody knows, a galloping riff the countdowns still can't shake, and it and "Mr. Crowley" were the two singles. "I Don't Know" kicks the door in hard, too. It was a new start that didn't sound like a consolation prize, and the critics agreed: it has been widely acclaimed and is ranked among the great metal albums.
