Too Fast for Love, Mötley Crüe's debut, first crawled out on November 10, 1981, as a run of just 900 copies on the band's own Leathür Records. Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee had started the band in Hollywood that year, with Mick Mars and Vince Neil joining right after, and they produced the thing themselves: raw, cocky hard rock and heavy metal, all sleaze and street-level swagger before the hairspray took over.
Greenworld Distribution helped break them early on, and when Elektra signed them the next year the album was remixed and partly re-recorded, with a reshuffled track list, red cover lettering and a new photo inside. That version became the standard one, and it dropped "Stick to Your Guns", which had been a single alongside "Live Wire". The original mix didn't reach CD until 2002, in the Music to Crash Your Car To: Vol. 1 box. The album only got to 77 on the Billboard 200, but it eventually went platinum.
