/\/\ /\ Y /\, the album most people just call Maya, was M.I.A.'s third, released on 7 July 2010 through N.E.E.T., XL and Interscope, and it follows Kala with something far more jagged. She made it mostly at her house in Los Angeles, writing and producing chiefly with Blaqstarr and Rusko, with Diplo, Switch and her brother Sugu also lending a hand. The subject is information politics, a racket she dubbed a "digital ruckus", and for the first time she bolts industrial clang onto her beats. "XXXO" was one of the tracks she let loose online to stir things up ahead of the release.
Critics split, some thrilled and some put off by both the noise and the message, but it still became her highest-charting album on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching number nine in the US and number 21 in the UK, and it went top ten in Canada, Finland, Norway and Greece.
