Vivid by Living Colour
Vivid is an album by Living Colour, released in 1988. 2 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 101 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Cult of Personality”, on 89 lists with a best position of #42.
Vivid, Living Colour's debut album, came out on Epic on May 2, 1988, and it hits like a brick through a window. This is hard rock and metal played with funk muscle, punk speed and a head full of ideas, with Vernon Reid's guitar ripping between razor-edged riffs and wild, skittering solos and Muzz Skillings's bass popping underneath.
"Cult of Personality" is the calling card, built on a massive, circling riff and a chorus that sounds like a crowd chant. "Glamour Boys" goes lighter and slinkier, with a bouncy, sardonic swing. Few records sold better that year: it climbed to number six on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum.
