WALLS, Kings of Leon's seventh studio album, hit the racks through RCA on October 14, 2016, and the capital letters aren't shouting: they spell out We Are Like Love Songs. Hunting for a change of scenery, the Followills, brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared plus cousin Matthew, set up at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, the city where they'd cut their first two records, hoping the old haunt would shake something loose. Markus Dravs produced, and the result is buffed, wide-screen pop rock, a long drive from the Southern-fried garage blues the Mount Juliet, Tennessee band came up on.
"Waste a Moment" is the rush of it, chiming guitars and a chorus built for arenas, while "Reverend" slows into something moodier. Mechanical Bull came before it; When You See Yourself would take until 2021 to follow.
