Uniform Distortion by Jim James
Uniform Distortion is an album by Jim James, released in 2018. 1 song from it has charted on rock radio countdowns, with 3 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “Throwback”, on 3 lists with a best position of #29.
Uniform Distortion, Jim James's third solo album, came out on ATO Records on June 29, 2018, a side trip for the My Morning Jacket frontman that he produced with Kevin Ratterman at La La Land in Louisville, Kentucky, the city he grew up in. The spark came from the 1970s magazine Whole Earth Catalog, where James found Duane Michals' photograph "Illuminated Man"; he wrote to Michals asking to use it, and it became the cover.
The title promises grit, and James delivers it with a grin, letting the guitars get rough and his voice ride on top of the noise instead of hiding under it. "Just a Fool" came first, with a video and a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and "Throwback" followed as the second single. Reviews were generally warm, adding up to a Metacritic score of 77.
