Rising Above Bedlam, the 1991 album from Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart, finds Wobble's crew, Justin Adams, David Harrow, Mark Ferda and John Reynolds among them, stitching together sounds from all over the map into one long, rolling groove. It's world music with a low end you feel in your ribs.
"Visions of You" is the one that crossed over onto the countdowns, and it's the album's most open-armed moment: a hypnotic, lovely groove that sounds like it could drift on for hours. The record didn't make much noise on the charts, but it earned a place on the 1992 Mercury Prize shortlist.
