CRAWLER by Idles
CRAWLER is an album by Idles, released in 2021. 2 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 5 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “The Beachland Ballroom”, on 3 lists with a best position of #32.
Crawler, Idles' fourth studio album, came out on Partisan Records on 12 November 2021, about a year after Ultra Mono had handed the Bristol band their first UK number one. Joe Talbot, guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, bassist Adam Devonshire and drummer Jon Beavis sound less interested this time in the chant-along punch-up and more in shadows and space.
The post-punk bite is still there, but it keeps giving way to something murkier and more exposed. "The Beachland Ballroom" is the big surprise, Talbot crooning with a raw, almost soulful ache over a slow-burning groove, and "Crawl" is the one the countdowns came back to. Critics were on board, and it earned a Best Rock Album nomination at the 65th Grammy Awards.
