The Reason by Hoobastank
The Reason is an album by Hoobastank, released in 2003. 5 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 59 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “The Reason”, on 27 lists with a best position of #5.
The Reason, Hoobastank's second album for Island, arrived on December 9, 2003, with Howard Benson producing, and it's where the Agoura Hills band traded some of their post-grunge crunch for a broader, glossier reach. Doug Robb sings with clean-cut conviction, Dan Estrin's guitars chime as often as they churn, and Chris Hesse and bassist Markku Lappalainen hold the floor, in what would be Lappalainen's last album with them.
The title track is the one everyone knows, a heart-on-sleeve ballad that became the band's signature song, while "Out of Control" and "Same Direction" kept the heavier side alive. Critics were split, but buyers weren't: the album reached number three on the Billboard 200, went double platinum and has sold more than 2.3 million copies in the US alone.
