Life on the Line, the second album from Essex pub-rock scrappers Eddie and the Hot Rods, hit the shops on Island in 1977, with Ed Hollis producing, Steve Lillywhite engineering and Hollis and Steve Nicol handling the mix. It's pub-rock grit with one eye on the new wave and a taste for power-pop hooks, played with the foot to the floor and Barrie Masters barking over the top.

The big one is "Do Anything You Wanna Do", credited to the trimmed-down Rods, a ringing, fist-in-the-air rocker that climbed to number nine on the UK singles chart. "Quit This Town" and the title track followed it out as singles, and the album itself reached 27 in Britain. Manfred Mann's Earth Band later covered "Do Anything You Wanna Do" on Criminal Tango in 1986.
