Be the Void, Dr. Dog's seventh album, came out on Anti- on February 7, 2012, their second for the label after leaving Park the Van. The Philadelphia band co-produced it with Nathan Sabatino, and it's the follow-up to Shame, Shame.

At the heart of it are Toby Leaman on bass and Scott McMicken on guitar, who share the lead vocals, with everybody piling on the harmonies. What you get is indie rock that wears its love of Big Star, the Beach Boys and the Beatles right on its sleeve, but with a lived-in, ramshackle warmth. "That Old Black Hole" is the one the countdowns latched onto, a woozy, cosmic stomp, and "Lonesome" and "Do the Trick" got a run as well. Early Dr. Dog records had a lo-fi scruff to them; this one is cleaner, but it still sounds like a party in somebody's basement.
