Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie
Narrow Stairs is an album by Death Cab for Cutie, released in 2008. 3 songs from it have charted on rock radio countdowns, with 86 countdown appearances in total. The biggest is “I Will Possess Your Heart”, on 43 lists and voted number one twice.
Narrow Stairs, Death Cab for Cutie's sixth album, came out on Atlantic and Barsuk on May 12, 2008, and it finds the Bellingham band at their most restless. Ben Gibbard's songs are as sensitive and introspective as ever, but Chris Walla's guitars, Nick Harmer's bass and Jason McGerr's drums push them into darker, knottier corners.
Nowhere more than on "I Will Possess Your Heart", which rides a long, hypnotic groove and still landed a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. "Cath..." and "Grapevine Fires" followed it onto alternative radio, and "No Sunlight" went out as a single too. The album went to number one on the Billboard 200, the only chart-topper the band has had.
