Cansei de Ser Sexy by CSS

Cansei de Ser Sexy, the debut from São Paulo's CSS, first appeared in Brazil on Trama on 9 October 2005, where it reportedly moved about 5,000 copies and never troubled the charts. The rest of the world took longer: Sub Pop put out an international version in the US in July 2006, and Sire brought it to Britain in January 2007. The band's name, which the album shares, translates roughly as "tired of being sexy", and that tells you plenty about the wink in all this.

It's a gleefully trashy party record from a band that sings in English and Portuguese alike, the sort of thing that got them lumped in with the new rave scene. "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" is pure dancefloor provocation, and "Alala", "Off the Hook" and "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" all made the UK singles chart. One limited edition even came with a blank CD-R so buyers could burn a copy and give it away.
