Is the World Strange or Am I Strange?, the second album from Devon-raised singer-songwriter Cosmo Jarvis, arrived on 26 September 2011, a restless, genre-hopping alternative rock record with a title that doubles as a mission statement. The calling card was "Gay Pirates", out as a single back in January with a video Jarvis directed himself; it was picked as a Record of the Day and as AOL Spinner's video of the day. "Sure as Hell Not Jesus", "My Day" and "She Doesn't Mind" followed it out as singles.
Jarvis, born in New Jersey and raised in Totnes, would later leave songwriting behind for acting, with Lady Macbeth, Calm with Horses and the role of John Blackthorne in Shōgun among his credits, which makes this record a snapshot of a career that was about to take a hard turn.
