Night Songs, Cinderella's debut album, came out on Mercury Records on June 9, 1986, with Andy Johns producing. The band came out of the Philadelphia suburbs with Tom Keifer singing and playing guitar, Jeff LaBar on guitar, Eric Brittingham on bass and Fred Coury on drums, and they looked the part of big-haired glam rockers while playing with more grit than most of the pack.

Keifer's voice is the calling card, a gravelly, throat-shredding howl that makes the riffs sound meaner than they are. "Shake Me" was the opening single and went nowhere, but "Nobody's Fool", a bruised power ballad, broke them wide open, reaching No. 13. "Somebody Save Me" came next. With MTV playing their videos and an opening slot on labelmates Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet tour, the album climbed to No. 3 early in 1987 and went on to triple platinum.
