Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1 by Calvin Harris

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, Calvin Harris's fifth studio album, came out on Columbia on 30 June 2017, and it finds the Scottish DJ and producer slowing down and loosening up. For the first time on one of his albums, Harris doesn't sing a note. Instead he throws open the doors to a guest list that reads like a summer festival bill, from Frank Ocean, Migos and Pharrell Williams to Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, John Legend and Nicki Minaj, with Starrah doing much of the heavy lifting on the writing.

The sound is breezy, sun-baked funk and disco-pop, all rubbery bass, bright keys and unhurried grooves made for a long afternoon by the pool. "Slide", "Heatstroke", "Rollin", "Feels" and "Faking It" went out as singles, the reviews were mostly warm, and it came in at number two on the albums charts on either side of the Atlantic. A second volume followed in 2022.
