Jamboree, Beat Happening's second album, came out in 1988 on K Records and Rough Trade, and it's the Olympia trio doing what they do best: making a virtue of not knowing, or not caring, how you're supposed to play. Calvin Johnson and Heather Lewis share the lead vocals, Lewis and Bret Lunsford trade between guitar and drums, and the songs come out bare, wobbly and sweet, coy little crushes and carefree daydreams played like nobody's watching.

Steve Fisk produced most of it with help from Screaming Trees' Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Conner, who drops a short guitar solo into "Midnight a Go-Go"; Patrick Maley handled "Cat Walk", and Rich Jensen caught "The This Many Boyfriends Club" live. "Indian Summer" found its way onto a countdown decades later. This is lo-fi indie pop in its raw early form, from a band that helped invent twee.
