Cheers to the Fall, the debut album from R&B singer Andra Day, arrived on August 28, 2015 through Warner Bros. Records and Buskin Records. Stevie Wonder can claim a share of the credit for discovering her, and for the record itself she spread the production across a small, tight crew: Jennifer Decilveo, Adrian Gurvitz, Rob Kleiner, Raphael Saadiq and Chris Seefried.
The song that carried it was "Rise Up", the second single, and it did a lot of carrying. It earned a Grammy nod for Best R&B Performance and took the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award at the Soul Train Music Awards, and Day's performance of it on The View picked up a Daytime Emmy nomination of its own. The album itself was in the running for Best R&B Album at the Grammys, a strong opening statement for a first record.
